Roads from Denver to Breckenridge Closed.. then Opened

February 16th, 2007

This just in from Chris Toll:

For those of you on the way to Breck today, be advised that the Colorado Dept of Transportation has apparently closed I-70 between Georgetown and Vail due to high winds and snow. Colorado 285 is also closed between Kenosha Pass and Fairplay. Loveland Pass is closed. Bottom line: there is no way to drive from Denver to Breckenridge for the time being.

Roads opened late in the evening.

BRIAR ROSE NOT AVAILABLE

January 29th, 2007

All:

Mike and Rebecca Bromley were in Breckenridge this past weekend and went to the Briar Rose (which was the restaurant of choice for most who responded to my survey) to see if it could accommodate our group on Thursday night. Unfortunately, the Briar Rose could not accommodate our group that evening. As a result, Mike and Rebecca have made reservations for our group at the Hearthstone Restaurant for 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th. The Hearthstone has a similar menu to that of Briar Rose and also has an alcove which should hold our entire group. If you are interested in more info on the Hearthstone, its web address is http://www.hearthstonerestaurant.biz/. (For Al Moncure’s benefit, the online menu does show a steak offering.)

Between 8 and 8:15 p.m., the Great Divide Lodge will send its van over to Mike and Rebecca’s house to ferry our group to the Hearthstone and will also pick us up after dinner to return us to the Great Divide Lodge.

Mike has also verified that there is a short cut through the Great Divide Lodge to get to his house on King’s Crown Road. All you will have to do is get to the exit door on the 10th floor in the north tower, walk out and turn to the right and the Bromleys’ home is located on the first driveway on the right-maybe 150 yards. The Bromleys’ townhouse (#516) is the only unit with Christmas lights so it should be really easy! If you get a floor plan of the lodge when you register, that should simplify finding the exit from the north tower.

See you in just over two weeks.

DARTMOUTH LAWYERS SKI BRECKENRIDGE February 16-19, 2007

The DARTMOUTH LAWYERS ASSOCIATION’s 20th ANNUAL MIDWINTER CLE AND SKI will convene at BRECKENRIDGE

Breckenridge boasts the highest lift served terrain in North America and has a variety of runs which will satisfy and/or challenge skiers of all abilities. The historic town of Breckenridge boasts art galleries, bars, restaurants, bookstores, ski sales/rental shops, and all sorts of other establishments which will appeal to skiers and non-skiers alike.

LODGING
The resort that will be hosting our meeting is the GREAT DIVIDE LODGE near the base of the Beaver Run Lift. The GREAT DIVIDE LODGE is holding a block of 35 rooms for the meeting until December 15, 2006 at 11:59PM Mountain Time. To make your room reservations, call 888-525-1787 and identify yourself as part of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association’s group and Group Code BC2CDLA. If you have any requests for special room arrangements, you need to make them at the time of your call. The Dartmouth Lawyers Association has also negotiated discounted rates at the Mountain Thunder Lodge which is about a 5 minute shuttle ride from the Great Divide Lodge, as well as Village and Breckenridge (also a 5 minute walk from the Great Divide Lodge). The reserved room block, however, is only at the Great Divide Lodge and lodging at the other facilities will be on a space available basis. The negotiated rates for all of the lodging options (which include parking) are attached. You can download your very own copy here.

    August 29th, 2006

OK, perhaps pouring is a bit grandiose, but it’s only August and already folks are signing up for what promises to be a scintillating CLE program and some darn good snow!

Here’s the latest updates from Program Coordinator, Richard Merrill, on updates to this year’s Mid-Winter Conference.

Since last I e-mailed most of you, progress has been made regarding the Midwinter CLE and Ski.

I have lined up Judd Golden, the Boulder Chair of the ACLU, as a speaker and Jim Davidson, an avid mountaineer and adventure seeker, as the banquet speaker. The Colorado Atty General has been asked to speak but will not be able to let us know until after December 1st as to whether his winter schedule will allow it. Click here for all the speakers we have to date.

Mike and Rebecca Bromley have offered to give skiing tours of the mountain.

    20th Anniversary Commemorative Schwag
In the past, the DLA has provided various types of souvenirs to the attendees. Such souvenirs have included caps, hats, scarves, fanny packs, soft-sided gym bags, mugs, and ear warmers. Tsan and I have been kicking around various ideas, including monogrammed hats and wine bottles which have a DLA commemorative labels for the event. If any of you have any thoughts or preferences for the attendance souvenir this time around, please let me know directly or post a comment below. (Just don’t put forth items which need to be sized to fit, such as mittens or gloves, or items which are just too expensive, like handheld GPS units.)

    NEXT YEAR IN ???
For those interested in nominating a venue for 2008’s midwinter meeting please click here to see the guidelines DLA has instituted.

Hope to see all of you in Breck in February.
